I have 20 years’ experience of cutting and constructing men’s and women’s period costume, underpinned by an extensive knowledge of dress history. This has given me a thorough understanding of the processes, pressures and requirements of a costume department.
Working in collaboration with designers and costume supervisors, I have a proven track record of interpreting design drawings and ideas to make high quality costumes for theatre, ballet, opera, tv and film.

In addition to my costume work I take commissions from individuals. I work from personal measurements to produce well-made garments with professional fit and finish. Drawing on my knowledge of dress history I can meet your requirements whether it is something historically accurate, with a period feel or simply a classic 3 piece suit.

I can interpret a drawing, image or work from a description to come to an agreed design. I am skilled in all the processes from taking measurements through drafting the pattern to sewing the last button on. I can also source the fabrics, linings and any other outfitting needs you may have from my broad knowledge of textile merchants, haberdashers and suppliers. Once I have cut the pattern and part completed your garments we will meet again for fittings and to finalise the design details.
Your bespoke garment will be made with pride, care and attention to detail, using traditional skills to ensure a beautiful fit.
I trained as a theatre costume cutter/maker at Liverpool City College (aka Mabel Fletchers).
I have extensive experience of cutting and making both men’s and women’s period costume. I have worked as cutter and costume supervisor on a wide variety of productions and for many companies including Opera North, RSC, West Yorkshire Playhouse and Sheffield Theatres. My continuing fascination with dress history informs my work and inspires me to investigate cut and construction of historical clothing, particularly 18th-20th century tailoring.
I am based in Sheffield which is ideally placed for road and rail links making travel for meetings, fittings and location work convenient.
